  Choir Lessons at SPMS!

.Lessons help students improve
their singing!

All 7th & 8th Grade choir students at SPMS are scheduled for individual or small group instruction once every other week.   Students are scheduled for lessons during their study halls if possible.  Schedules for lessons are available here.

Because lesson attendance can contribute greatly to a student's improvement and is the main tool for teacher's assessment of student progress, lesson attendance is a twenty-percent of each student's grade in choir. If they attend they get full credit. Students are not graded on how well they sing, only on their effort and their ability to be responsible to show up. Mr. Powers is willing to schedule make-up lessons on a case by case basis and students are responsible for setting up make-up times for missed lessons due to physical absence or "mental" absence (forgetfulness).  During lessons, which last approximately 20 minutes, students are assessed on current choral repertoire, sight-reading and rhythm reading are strengthened and individual vocal issues and student concerns are able to be addressed.

Our school district recognizes the importance of lessons in the building of individual singer's skill. In most school districts, students must pay for lessons ($10 - $30 per half hour) from an instructor outside the school district and attend the lessons outside the school day. Our students have incredible opportunities and are encouraged to take advantage of these voice lessons that are part of our curriculum.
